Description
Growing up on the farm like he did, this was my husband's very favorite side dish. We had it often!
Ingredients
| 1 | bn | leaf lettuce (or 1 head ) |
| 1 | bn | sliced green onions (about 6) |
| 5 | sli | Bacon (crumbled) |
| 1⁄4 | c | water |
| 1 | T | sugar |
| 1⁄2 | t | Salt |
| 1⁄4 | t | black pepper |
| 1⁄4 | t | dry mustard |
| 1⁄2 | c | cider vinegar |
Notes
This goes good with everything!
The dry mustard is optional.
Instructions
Wash and break lettuce into large serving bowl, then add the sliced onions. Set aside. Fry bacon until crisp, then crumble and remove to paper towel so it doesn't set in the grease.
Whisk vinegar, sugar, water, salt, pepper, and dry mustard together until sugar dissolves; set aside. Heat 2-3 tablespoons reserved bacon drippings to boiling; slowly whisk in vinegar mixture. Bring to a boil; remove from heat. Pour over salad; top with crumbled bacon. Toss and serve immediately.
